Support Scouting in Darien

Dear Friends,

Leadership, Service & Community are key tenets of Scouting in Darien and critical qualities for building well-rounded, successful, community-minded adults.

Our Scouts are unsung heroes, quietly working with many community organizations to provide services for the benefit of Darien and surrounding communities.  In addition to annual leaf raking for elderly residents; food, toy, & Salvation Army drives; and honoring our veterans, our Scouts are also involved with over 50 community organizations behind-the-scenes, clearing park trails, aiding in safety and conservation efforts, repairing and rebuilding, and serving under-privileged communities.

The Andrew Shaw Memorial Trust is the backbone of Scouting in Darien, providing a Center for Excellence for over 350 boys through two Boy Scout troops and four Cub Scout packs.

Our new co-ed STEM-focused Venture Crew, the first of its kind in the nation, provides high school students interested in STEM careers the opportunity to design and implement STEM activities and serve as counselors and mentors to under-served youth in surrounding towns, following in the footsteps of Post 53, which also started as a Darien Boy Scout Venture Crew.

Darien is fortunate to have our Scout Cabin as a home for Darien Scouting. We are proud of our growth and innovation and our strong team of dedicated adult volunteers, but we can’t do it alone:

Your financial support is vital to the continued success and growth of Scouting in Darien.

  • Operating costs are over $90,000/year, including cabin maintenance and prgram subsidies.
  •  We are all volunteers, there is no paid staff.
  • We receive no funding from the Town of Darien, United Way, The Community Fund, or Boy Scouts of America.

Please consider a tax-deductible contribution to the Andrew Shaw Memorial Trust to help support this foundation of leadership, service, and community for our youth.

A donation to the ASMT is not just a donation to Scouting; it’s a donation to the entire Darien community.

Sincerely,

Jay P. Shutts

President
