Support Scouting in Darien

Dear Friends,

Boys leading boys. That is what Scouting is all about. We as adult volunteers provide the opportunity and the boys step up and take the lead. This self-sufficiency is paramount to their character development, and most importantly, the lessons of service, leadership, and character stick with Scouts for a lifetime.

But it’s not only the boys that benefit from Scouting, the Scouts give back to the community too. Every year, Scouts rake leaves for elderly residents, collect food for Person-to-Person, place flags in Spring Grove Cemetery for Memorial Day, ring the Salvation Army holiday bell, and participate in the Feed My Starving Children mobile packing event. Additionally, prospective Eagle Scouts this year also led projects to clean up Weed Cemetery #2, build an activity center for the Darien Nature Center, replace the Woodland Park sign and clear a walking path, build bat racks and helmet boxes for little league fields, paint for Domus, and construct planters for St. Catherine's Academy, to name a few.

The Andrew Shaw Memorial Trust is the backbone of Scouting in Darien. The all-volunteer Trust not only operates the unique Scout Cabin facility, but also provides leadership and financial support for the troops and packs.  2015 marked the one-hundredth year of Scouting in Darien, and we are reminded of how much we need and appreciate the many supporters who have made the last 100 years possible.

Your financial support is vital to this community institution.

  • Operating and maintaining just the cabin costs over $60,000 per year. This does not include troop and pack equipment and expenses.
  • The Andrew Shaw Memorial Trust relies completely on Volunteers; there is no paid staff.
  • Darien Scouts receive no funding from The Town of Darien, United Way, The Community Fund, or Boy Scouts of America.

Please consider a tax-deductible contribution to the Andrew Shaw Memorial Trust. Help us keep the traditions of Scouting strong in Darien for the next 100 years.

Yours in Scouting,
