Support Scouting in Darien

Dear Friends,

What an exciting time for Darien Scouting!

The Andrew Shaw Memorial Trust (ASMT),the backbone of Scouting in Darien, provides a vital, robust program of leadership and character development to over 300 youth through two Scout troops, four Cub Scout packs, and a co-ed STEM Venture Crew.

And now, the Boy Scouts of America is accepting girls into all of their programs. So this year, we will be welcoming girls into our Darien packs and troops!

Also, as you may have heard,The ASMT has embarked on a capital campaign to build a much-needed new Scout Cabin! Scouts are thrifty, and we did not undertake this project lightly, but unfortunately, we need to resolve serious structural issues with the current Cabin. We are very excited about this important project that will build a new foundation for another century of Darien Scouting, and you will hear more about this campaign in the future.

In the meantime, we need your continued support to meet our annual operational and programming expenses. Your contribution is crucial to providing the needed funds for Darien Scouting programs that develop life skills for our youth, and deliver important benefits to our local community through service projects. For example, this year the Scouts undertook 15 community service projects, including building kayak racks at Pear Tree Point Beach, maintaining trails for the Darien Nature Center, Darien Community Association and Selleck Woods, doing garden clean-up at the Stephen Mather Homestead, participating in food, clothing, and toy collection drives, and more.

Darien is fortunate to have a robust Scouting program. We are proud of our growth and our strong team of dedicated adult volunteers, but we can’t do it alone:

Your annual financial support is vital to the continued success and growth of Scouting in Darien.

  • ·      Annual operating and program support costs over $90,000 per year
  • ·      We are all volunteers; there is no paid staff
  • ·      We receive no funds from Boy Scouts of America, The Community Fund, or Town of Darien

Please consider a tax-deductible contribution to the Andrew Shaw Memorial Trust Annual Appeal to help support the ongoing work of Darien Scout programs.

A donation to the ASMT is not just a gift to Scouting; it’s an investment in Darien youth and our community.

Sincerely,

Jay P. Shutts

President
